The system that makes brands recommended by AI.
The P0 Protocol is a structured generative engine optimization methodology. Three pillars, four actions, one score. Every engagement opens with a baseline P0 Score and closes with a proof document showing exactly what moved.
Your buyers are finding answers before they find you.
When a buyer asks ChatGPT which platform to use, which agency to hire, or which product fits their use case, the system names brands directly. The brands it names are the ones built to be read and cited by AI. The rest are absent from the conversation entirely.
This isn't a future problem. AI search traffic converts at 23 times the rate of Google organic, yet 80% of AI citations come from pages that don't rank in Google's top 100. Your SEO performance has almost no bearing on your AI visibility. They are separate problems that require separate work.
The P0 Protocol closes the AI side of that gap. It is not a generic GEO service. It is a structured, repeatable, auditable methodology with a defined scope, a measured start, and a documented outcome at ninety days.
Three pillars. Four actions. One score.
Position 0 looks like three conditions a brand has to meet for AI to recommend it. The protocol installs those conditions through four actions that run across every Sprint engagement. The score measures all three pillars continuously.
AI can find, parse, and recognize your brand. Two halves: technical access (schema, AI crawler accessibility, JS rendering, robots.txt) and foundational content coverage (the core content that lets AI place your brand in a category).
AI quotes your own content directly in answers. Original research, expert depth, structured answers, and proprietary data published on a domain you own. The work that turns your site into the source AI reaches for first.
Authoritative third parties vouch for your brand. News and licensed media, Wikipedia where notability allows, Reddit, expert publications, and comparison content. The off-domain work that makes the rest of the web vouch for you.
The diagnostic. Scores the brand against all three pillars and produces the P0 Score, written findings per dimension, and a prioritized roadmap. Cross-cuts every engagement and runs first.
Installs Discoverable. Technical access work plus foundational content coverage. Schema, AI crawler accessibility, JS rendering, robots.txt, entity definition, and pillar pages. Front-loaded in month one.
Installs Quotable. Citation-worthy original content on the brand's own domain. Original research, expert content, structured answers, comparison pages, and proprietary data. Continuous from month two.
Installs Credible. Third-party placement across news and licensed media, Wikipedia, Reddit, expert publications, podcasts, and comparison content. Continuous from month two onward.
If the content lives on a URL the brand owns, it is Quotable work. If it lives on any URL the brand does not own, it is Credible work. The author does not matter. The platform does. LinkedIn posts the founder writes are Credible because LinkedIn owns the surface. AI weighs the source domain as the authority signal, not the byline.
A 100-point measurement that makes every engagement auditable.
The P0 Score is the measurement framework at the center of the P0 Protocol. Every engagement opens with a baseline P0 Score from the GEO Audit and closes with a second P0 Score. The delta is the proof document.
The score covers three categories, each measured at two levels. The free AI Visibility Snapshot scores the three top-level dimensions only, directional and free. The full GEO Audit produces the official P0 Score across all six sub-dimensions, with written findings on each and a prioritized roadmap.
The named function inside the Authority action.
AI systems recommend brands they have seen referenced across sources they trust. The Citation Network is the operational layer inside the Authority action that produces and places third-party content across the channels AI weighs most.
The mix is not fixed. A B2B SaaS brand might lean heavily on G2, expert publications, and podcasts. An ecommerce brand might lean on Wirecutter-style editorial coverage, Reddit, and category review surfaces. The work is selecting the right channels for the brand, producing or coordinating placement, and tracking citation lift against the score.
What the Citation Network is not is a tiered press release product. There is no pay-to-play package list. Every channel is selected for whether AI actually weighs it for the brand's category, and the work is sized accordingly.
Earned coverage in news outlets plus licensed wire syndication where the placement is genuinely editorial. Trade publications and category-specific media in the brand's vertical.
Where notability allows. AI cites Wikipedia at higher confidence than most other surfaces because the editorial standard is enforced. Accurate, properly-sourced entries that confirm the entity AI is being asked about.
Reddit, Quora, Hacker News, and similar surfaces where buyers ask each other for recommendations. AI weights these heavily because the discussion is unprompted.
Guest content in expert publications, podcast appearances where the brand or practitioner gets named, and industry roundups that quote your team. Platforms with editorial weight transfer that weight to the brands they feature.
G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, and editorial comparison content where AI looks when buyers ask for alternatives. Being listed alongside the alternatives is the entry condition. Being listed favorably is the work.
The Sprint builds visibility. Keeping it is different work.
The P0 Protocol closes at 90 days with a proof document. AI visibility is not a one-time fix. Citation velocity, content depth, and competitive positioning all drift over time. AI Search Optimization is the ongoing service for brands that completed the Sprint and want to maintain and extend their position.
Citation Velocity
Citations stop growing the moment you stop building them. Ongoing Citation Network distribution keeps the citation record expanding.
Content Maintenance
AI systems favor fresh, deep content. One to two GEO-optimized pieces per month keeps your content footprint competitive as query patterns shift.
Score Monitoring
Quarterly re-scores track drift across all six dimensions. If something slips you know exactly which dimension and what caused it.
Competitive Tracking
ChatGPT dropped from 6-7 brand mentions per answer to 3-4 after its October 2025 update. Competition for AI mentions is tightening across every platform.
About the P0 Protocol and generative engine optimization.
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing a brand's presence to appear in responses generated by AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overview, and Google AI Mode. SEO optimizes for how search engines rank pages. GEO optimizes for how AI language models select brands when generating answers.
The disciplines share foundational principles. Technical structure, content depth, third-party authority. The specific implementation differs significantly. SEO prioritizes keyword placement and backlink volume. GEO prioritizes entity clarity, structured data, content retrievability, and citation consistency across sources AI systems treat as authoritative. Ahrefs data from August 2025 shows 80% of AI citations come from pages outside Google's top 100.
The three pillars are Discoverable (AI can find your brand), Quotable (AI cites your content directly), and Credible (third parties vouch for you). The P0 Score measures all three. AI Discoverability is 40 points and tracks Discoverable. AI Retrievability is 40 points and tracks Quotable. AI Authority is 20 points and tracks Credible.
The four actions install the pillars through specific work. Foundation installs Discoverable. Content installs Quotable. Authority installs Credible. Audit cross-cuts as the diagnostic that scores all three at the start of every engagement.
Five baseline systems: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overview, and Google AI Mode. These drive the largest share of AI-assisted buyer research today. Each uses different retrieval architecture and weights different source types, which is why the Authority action does not rely on a single placement type. Only 11% of domains are cited by both ChatGPT and Perplexity, so being visible on one does not mean you're visible on the others. Additional systems including Claude and Grok are tracked when the brand's category and audience warrant it.
The free AI Visibility Snapshot scores the three top-line dimensions only. Directional, free, marketing-grade. It shows where the brand stands in AI search relative to competitors. The output is the AI Visibility Score, not the official P0 Score.
The GEO Audit is the first stage of every Sprint. It scores all six sub-dimensions, produces the official P0 Score, and delivers written findings on each dimension plus a prioritized roadmap. Starts at $1,500 and is credited toward the Sprint.
The GEO Sprint is the full 90-day engagement. Four stages: Audit, Foundation, Content, and Authority. Score re-measurement and the proof document close the engagement. Starts at $6,500. The Audit is credited toward the Sprint if completed first as a standalone.
Technical implementation is quoted separately after the GEO Audit findings are delivered. Implementation scope varies significantly by site and platform and can't be accurately priced before the audit. The Sprint includes the audit, strategy, content production, and Citation Network placement. Implementation is a separate line item scoped from audit findings.
Some existing organic presence helps because it means the technical and content foundation isn't being built from zero. Strong SEO is not a prerequisite, though. What matters most is a real web presence, a clear offering, and some existing content. A technically strong site means the Foundation stage moves faster, not that it gets skipped. The GEO Audit identifies the specific gaps regardless of starting point.
