Credible: Pillar 03 of the P0 Protocol | Position 0
Pillar 03 of 03 · Credible

Credible: AI recommends you
because the rest of the web
already does.

Credible is the third pillar of the P0 Protocol. AI weights how often authoritative third parties mention your brand and in what context. Publications and editorial roundups, best-of lists, creators and YouTube, Reddit, customer reviews, and retailer surfaces. The off-domain work that makes your name keep showing up where AI is reading.

What Credible Means

When AI weighs you against everyone else.

AI assembles every recommendation by checking how the rest of the web treats a brand. If a brand only talks about itself, on its own domain, AI weights that low. If trusted third parties consistently reference the brand, AI raises the confidence on every citation.

Credible is the work that produces those third-party signals. Editorial coverage that sticks. Best-of lists and gift guides that name you. Reddit threads where people recommend you organically. Creators who review you on camera. Retailer and marketplace surfaces where your product carries real reviews.

The on-domain rule defines this pillar by exclusion. If the content lives on a URL your brand owns, it's Quotable work. If it lives anywhere else, it's Credible work. A founder's post on a social platform is Credible because that platform owns the surface. The author doesn't matter. The platform does.

Credible is the slowest pillar to compound because it depends on third parties. It carries the smallest score weight for the same reason. But once it starts compounding, it's the hardest pillar for a competitor to displace.

What AI Looks For

The five channels of credibility.

These are the off-domain surfaces AI weights when judging whether a brand has third-party authority. The mix is tailored to the category. A beauty brand needs a different channel mix than a home goods brand. The principle is the same. Make the rest of the web vouch for you in the places AI is already reading.

01 · Channel
News and Licensed Media

Earned coverage in publications, plus licensed wire syndication where the placement is genuinely editorial. AI weighs the authority of the citing publication and the recency of the citation. A handful of placements in trusted outlets compounds further than dozens on low-authority sites.

Creators and YouTube

AI reads video descriptions and transcripts as text, which is why YouTube carries more citation weight than most brands expect. Reviews, hauls, comparisons, and category explainers from creators AI treats as credible. The work is earning coverage from the creators your buyers already watch, not buying a volume of posts nobody finishes.

Reddit and Community Signal

AI weights Reddit and similar community surfaces heavily because the discussion is unprompted. When buyers ask each other for recommendations, the brands that get named earn a citation footprint AI can't ignore. The work isn't astroturfing. It's making sure the brand shows up in the conversations that already happen, with the substance to be recommended.

Best-of Lists and Affiliate Editorial

The ranked lists AI reaches for when a buyer asks what to buy. Best-of roundups, gift guides, and affiliate editorial where a publication has tested and ranked the category. These are the highest-leverage placements in consumer AI search, because the format already answers the question the buyer asked.

Reviews, Retailers, and Product Databases

Customer reviews, retailer and marketplace listings, and third-party product databases. AI leans on these heavily for consumer questions because they carry structured attributes, real purchase signal, and volume. Being listed alongside the alternatives is the entry condition. Being listed favorably, with accurate attributes and enough reviews to be credible, is the work.

Named Function

The Citation Network.

The Citation Network is the named function inside the Authority action. It's the operational layer that produces and places third-party content across the channels above, tailored to the brand's category and audience.

The mix isn't fixed. A beauty brand might lean on editorial roundups, creators, and retailer reviews. A home goods brand might lean on best-of lists, Reddit, and marketplace listings. The work is selecting the right channels for the brand, producing or coordinating placement, and tracking citation lift against the score.

What the Citation Network is not is a tiered press release product. There's no pay-to-play package list. Every channel is selected for whether AI actually weighs it for the brand's category, and the work is sized accordingly.

Where It Shows Up In Your P0 Score

Credible is worth 20 points.

The P0 Score is a 100-point measurement across three categories. AI Credibility is the smallest of the three at 20 points, not because it matters less, but because it moves slower. Third-party citation depends on third parties, and the protocol is honest about what a quarter of structured work can move on that surface.

It splits into Third-Party Citation Presence (whether trusted third parties are referencing your brand at all) and Review and Social Proof Presence (whether review surfaces, comparison content, and community channels carry the brand). The free AI Visibility Snapshot answers whether AI knows who you are, what you do, and who you serve. The full AI Visibility Audit goes both sub-dimensions deep.

Why Credible carries the smallest weight

Credible depends on third parties, which is why it moves slower than the other two pillars. The 20-point weighting reflects what a quarter of structured authority work can realistically move, not the long-term importance of the pillar.

How We Install It

The Authority action.

Authority is the action that installs Credible. It runs continuously from month two, alongside Content. The work is selecting the right channels for the brand's category, producing or coordinating placements, and tracking citation lift across the surfaces AI weights most.

Authority compounds slower than the other two actions, because every placement requires a third party. The protocol accepts that constraint and plans against it. We aim for the placements that move AI Credibility specifically, not the placements that produce a vanity link footprint.

What Failure Looks Like

How brands fail Credible.

Credible failure is the most invisible of the three. The site looks fine. The content is good. AI just doesn't have a reason to weight the brand against the alternatives. These are the patterns that produce that gap.

No third-party citation footprint

The brand has produced great on-domain content but has never been quoted, mentioned, or cited by a publication AI weights. AI sees a brand that talks about itself in a category where the alternatives have actual third-party support.

No creator coverage

Nobody has reviewed the product on camera. There are no comparison videos, no hauls, no category explainers that name the brand. AI reads video transcripts as text, so competitors with creator coverage accumulate citations the brand never sees.

Invisible in community channels

Reddit threads about the category never name the brand. Buyer forums recommend the alternatives. The brand has no organic community presence in the surfaces AI reads for unprompted recommendations, which are the ones it weights most.

Thin on reviews and best-of lists

Retailer and marketplace listings carry few reviews or incomplete attributes. Editorial best-of lists and gift guides leave the brand out. Category roundups name the alternatives. AI defaults to the brands that show up where buyers ask what to buy.
